My Mission
To improve opportunities for low-income, disabled, and marginalized individuals seeking better employment or income opportunities.
As a disabled freelancer myself, I offer compassion to those feeling trapped in a cycle of low-wage jobs. Please check out my articles and blog for more resources for job seekers.
In an attempt to help as many people as possible, I now offer resume services priced by income level. Low-income individuals and families pay as little as $50. See rates below.
Resume Donation Program
There are many homeless individuals and struggling parents in need of an effective resume to gain better-paying jobs. These individuals often cannot afford even the low rates offered here. While my own dire financial straits do not allow me to provide resumes for free at this time, I want to provide assistance to these job seekers.
To that end, on July 3, 2023, I implemented a new donation campaign, found here. Each $25 donation through this campaign pays for a one-page resume and cover letter for an individual in need of better-paying employment.

If you are homeless or are a parent that has been unemployed for more than one month, please click here to request one of these “free” resume slots. Preference is given to Kansas City Metro Area residents. Otherwise these services are on a first come first served basis and based on the availability of donations.
Resume Services for All
Income-Based Resume Services
My resume services are priced based on income level of the job seeker’s current position, or the position sought by currently unemployed individuals. This allows me to provide more affordable resume services for those in need.
My current rates are below:
Low Income Resume Service:
Positions paying less than $25k/year
$50 for a 1-page resume and cover letter
Starter Resume Service:
Positions paying less than $50k/year
$100 for a 2-page resume, $10 for each cover letter
Standard Resume Service:
Positions paying between $50k-100k/year
$150 for a 2-page resume, $10 for each cover letter
Advanced Resume Service:
Positions paying over $100k/year
$200 for a 2-page resume, $10 for each cover letter
How to request resume services
I now offer Starter, Standard, and Advanced resume service packages via Upwork’s Project Catalog. You can place your order by visiting the links to the left. An Upwork account is required, and Upwork charges an additional 5% fee when you place your order.

To keep resume services affordable, I am still providing resumes away from Upwork. To order a resume service, please send an email to thewordsmithkc@gmail.com. Payment must be made in advance via PayPal.
I have created the same project catalog on Fiverr for those who prefer that platform. I am new to Fiverr and unsure of fees charged to clients, but my own fees are higher on Fiverr. You can place your resume order on Fiverr here.
My Process
From Scratch
My process is simple, and starts with a resume client questionnaire that gives you the opportunity to provide me with details of your experience, education, and skills. I will also ask for a target job title or links to jobs to which you plan to apply.
I may schedule a chat with you after I receive your completed questionnaire to ensure we are on the same page and ask any questions. From there, I will provide the first draft.
The first draft of your resume will likely have some holes and require some revisions. Unless provided, I will write job descriptions based on the duties typically performed in the specific position. Any missing information that needs to be provided will be highlighted.
The first round of revisions addresses the above and polishes formatting. It is common for formatting to look askew during editing and revisions. The second deliverable will be a polished resume, and a cover letter if you have ordered one.
Another round of revisions is rarely needed, but allowed for. Your final resume documents are retained by me for 3 months, after which they will be deleted. Unless otherwise specified, your resume could be used in redacted form as a sample for portfolios.
With Current Resume
I will gather your most recent resume and cover letter documents and review them before making a solid plan for your project. Depending on how much information needs to be added to the resume, I may ask that you complete a resume client questionnaire. I will also ask that you provide the link and job titles for specific positions for which you want to apply.
I will start by determining the most appropriate organization for your resume that will highlight your skills and experience for the specific position for which you want to apply. I will reorganize and in some cases rewrite your resume into a first draft.
